The art of the mixtape is a practice that is slowly fading away in today's digital world. Music compilations in the past used to be a physical gifting experience and a method for connecting others. How can we create a music experience that offers a physical connection between people?
Form Refinement
I experimented with the shape of the base from a range from geometric to organic forms. The mockups helped determine which form is more understandable and intuitive for a user.
Prototyping Process
The base of the model is shaped from modulan in order to represent slip cast ceramic. Red cedar wood is the material for the speaker cover in order to enhance audio quality and for vintage aesthetic.
Create Mixes For The Ones You Love
The system includes three units and a mobile application. The application enables the user to insert songs while the blue mixing disc doubles as a speaker and a tangible mixing device. The gifting ring is the media that you attach to the system in order to download and give a custom mix. The loved one is able to listen to the gifting ring via headphones or use it with their own Ringmix System to listen out loud.
